How many of you participate or have participated in the FAA’s WINGS Proficiency Program?  Did you know that the program has undergone a major overhaul?  Here are some of the highlights of the new system:

1. The system has 3 levels (Basic, Advanced and Master)

2. Within each level, you can complete multiple Phases

3. You can complete a Phase of WINGS as often as you like

– To complete a Phase you must earn 6 credits

– A credit consists of 3 Knowledge credits (Courses, Seminars, or Activities) and 3 Flight credits

4. All pilots must complete the Basic Phase before moving on to the Advanced and Master.

5. Keeping up with the system is easy

– Simply go the www.faasafety.gov and register

– Once you register you can begin taking online courses

– As you complete a course the system will list the completed course on your “My Wings” homepage.

6. For each Phase of the WINGS program you complete, your Flight Review will be extended 24 months from the end of the month in which you completed the Phase.

– Example:  Complete a Phase on January 13,2011 and your Flight Review will be extended to January 31, 2013.

For more information on the new WINGS program, visit www.faasafety.gov and register at the top right hand corner.  This new program is much more user friendly than the old system and much more informative.  The knowledge courses are online tutorial type courses and have exams at the end to track your progress.  The FAA slogan of “Safer Skies Through Education” is definitely a good one.  At the beginning of this new year, make a resolution to be a safer more educated pilot, enroll in the new WINGS program today.
