Special Services was recently given another opportunity to help expose a group of kids, their parents and grandparents to the fun, freedom and business of aviation.

A local community has put together an annual summer camp for the visiting grandkids of their residents. We happen to be associated with one of the residents and help manage his plane.  He coordinated a tour of our airport as a special event for the participants at the camp. Their visit included a tour of the airport control tower and exposure to a number of different types of aircraft.
The group was given exclusive access to our Cirrus SR22 and Citation Ultra business jet along with a light sport aircraft and vintage Stearman biplane.  They concluded the day with lunch at our airport’s cafe.
We have found that it is vital to encourage young minds and expose them to the various aspects of aviation. Teaching the science and history of flight is the easy part. We make an extra effort to include a discussion about how aviation provides value to those associated with its use.
The NBAA and General Aviation News were able to pick up on the story. Perhaps others will be inspired to reach out to their community and arrange a visit of their airport and business soon.
