Diamond Authorized Service Center in Greenvile

Diamond aircraft turn heads on the ramp in many airports.

Seeing a Diamond land and turn toward SSC’s hangar at GMU always makes us smile.

The Diamond Aircraft company was founded by Austrian aircraft designer Worlf Hoffmann in 1981. They are very different from the vast majority of aircraft flying today, which were designed (and many manufactured) much earlier.

All of the models, piston or jet, are visually arresting and very unusual. The Diamond aircraft family includes a wide range of members, from piston to light jets to UAVs.

SSC’s Experience

SSC is a Diamond Authorized Service Center.

SSC has recently had a team member complete the Austro Engine E4 training for their diesel engine that is powered by Jet A.

Besides this specific training and authorization, we have a deep bench of technical experience and expertise with a wide variety of aircraft.

Ronald Campbell is SSC's Director of Maintenance.

Ronald A. Campbell is SSC’s Director of Maintenance. He has nearly 40 years experience in aircraft maintenance, management, and instruction. Ron graduated from Parks College with an Associate of Science degree in Aircraft Maintenance, and has BA & MA Degrees from Bob Jones University.

Ron holds both an aircraft Inspector Authorization (IA) and Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certificates. In addition, he is an FAA authorized Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME). Various other aviation schools and maintenance training include Flight Safety, Garrett, Embraer, Diamond, Hansa Jet, and Garrett AiResearch.

The Austro Engine

Diamond uses a proprietary Austro Engine Jet Fuel piston engine. That means there is no manual mixture control, no magneto ignition, no manual priming, no prop control lever, no hard starting – hot or cold, no manual runup tests, no shock cooling, no cowl flaps, no power calculations based on rpm and manifold pressure. This means it’s more efficient and easier to maintain.

The redundant full authority digital engine control of Austro engines takes the guesswork out of power- plant management. It offers simplified operation, on the ground and in the air. There is only one power lever per engine and actual power is displayed in percent power on the fully integrated Garmin G1000. Annunciations are clear and accurate with resettable and recorded audio and visual cautions and warnings that let you focus outside.

Maintenance on Austro engines is performed much the same as with most modern engines today, by connecting a computer and downloading recorded data including any present fault codes. Pre-emptive diagnostics detect issues before they develop into problems and that enhances safety and gives more peace of mind.

On top of all that, Austro‘s engines burn much less fuel, have extended maintenance intervals, use unleaded as well as cheaper and globally available Jet Fuel and run smoother and quieter.
